Mixing Coolant, There’s a better way with Dosatron

In metalworking, precision is crucial, including how you mix your coolant. Many facilities still use hand mixing or outdated venturi systems attached to barrels. These methods may seem adequate, but they often lead to wasted time and extra effort when trying to achieve the correct coolant concentration.

Elevate Your Metalworking with Premium Coolant Mixers

Dosatron’s premium non-electric coolant mixers are designed to simplify coolant management, increase efficiency, and deliver consistent results.

Why Choose Dosatron?

Dosatron coolant mixers stand out for their water-activated design. Here’s why they’re better than traditional methods:

  • Proportional Mixing: Dosatron mixers always maintain the correct coolant-to-water ratio, ensuring consistent results every time.
  • Positive Displacement Technology: The mixing accuracy remains stable, even when water pressure changes.
  • Non-Venturi Design: Unlike venturi systems, which can clog because of suction, Dosatron's system stays precise and reliable.
  • Simple Maintenance: Maintenance is required just once a year, making upkeep easy for your team.

Once your mixer is set up, you only need to check the coolant concentration with a tester and make any necessary adjustments. After that, Dosatron mixers provide consistent, repeatable results without the hassle of frequent fine-tuning.

Tailored Solutions for Your Facility

Every facility has different needs, which is why Dosatron offers various turnkey mixer systems:

  • Bucket or Sump Fill Mixers: These mixers make it easy to prepare coolant at any workstation.
  • Central Coolant Distribution Systems: Ideal for facilities that need a continuous flow to multiple points throughout the workspace.

Dosatron mixers are built for performance and reliability. They’re also designed for ease of use and long-term durability. With only one annual maintenance check required, you can trust these mixers to work efficiently year after year.

The Different Types of Coolants

Water-Soluble

These coolants are a blend of oil and water that form an emulsion when mixed. They balance cooling and lubrication, making them great for high-speed machining where heat control matters. The water helps transfer heat, while the oil lubricates the tools, preventing wear.

They are commonly used for general machining and may have additives to prevent rust, extend sump life, and control foam. However, regular monitoring is necessary, as they can promote microbial growth and cause skin irritation if not handled properly.

Semi-Synthetic

Semi-synthetic coolants combine the features of water-soluble and synthetic coolants. They have less mineral oil, making them less oily but still effective for lubrication. They cool better because of their higher water content, while a small amount of oil provides lubrication.

These fluids are cleaner during operation, reduce misting and residue, and extend tool life. They work well for various tasks, like grinding and cutting, and have lower bacterial growth than water-soluble coolants, leading to fewer maintenance problems.

Synthetic

These coolants are oil-free, consisting of water and chemical additives that provide excellent cooling and rust protection. They are ideal for grinding and high-speed cutting where heat management is essential but heavy lubrication isn’t needed. Because they contain no oil, they stay cleaner in the machine and on parts, resulting in longer sump life and less maintenance. They resist contaminants, reducing odors and health concerns. However, they might not work for tasks needing high lubrication, like threading or deep-hole drilling.

Straight Oils

Straight oils, or neat oils, are undiluted and used for applications that need extreme lubrication. They are made of mineral or petroleum oils with additives such as sulfur, chlorine, or phosphorus that enhance lubrication and prevent metal contact under high pressure.

Straight oils are ideal for heavy-duty tasks such as threading, broaching, and deep-hole drilling, where tool life and surface quality matter. While they offer excellent lubrication and corrosion protection, they have limited cooling capacity and can be messy, hard to clean, and produce mist, which may raise health and environmental concerns.

Choosing the Right Coolant

Selecting the right coolant depends on factors like the material being machined, the machining process, and the desired finish.

For example:

  • Water-soluble coolants are best for high-speed milling.
  • Semi-synthetic coolants suit general-purpose machining.
  • Synthetic coolants excel in grinding and high-speed cutting.
  • Straight oils are necessary for heavy-duty operations where lubrication takes precedence over cooling.

Choosing the right coolant for the job improves efficiency, reduces tool wear, and ensures quality finishes.

What do users say?

"As someone who's spent years in metalworking, I’ve seen the hassle of hand-mixing coolant or using venturi systems. They often require constant adjustments, which can be frustrating and time-consuming.

Since switching to Dosatron’s premium coolant mixers, it’s been a game changer. The proportional mixing means I always get the right coolant-to-water ratio, and I don’t have to worry about changes in water pressure messing with the results."
